Have you had a sex on the beach? This popular vodka fruity cocktail is made with cranberry juice, orange juice, peach schnapps and vodka. It’s not only a smooth drink but it’s also one of those drinks that everyone will enjoy and it’s really easy to make. No fancy techniques or ingredients needed.
The Origins of the Sex On The Beach Cocktail
According to bartender lore, and the website sexonthebeach, the drink was invented in the state of Florida in 1987, by a young entrepreneur named Ted Pizio in a bar called Confetti. It was spring break, and Peach schnapps was rapidly gaining ground in America’s drinking scene.
It was in such high demand that National Distributor, a big liquor distributor, set up a contest and they promised a cash reward of $1,000 to the bar that could sell the most peach schnapps, as well as $100 for the top bartender at that bar.
Ted ultimately won the reward and his mix of vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and grenadine was a hit. When customers asked what the drink was called, Ted thought about two of the most famous activities in Florida, the beach and sex. So he proudly named his new drink Sex on the Beach!

What You’ll Need
How to Make It
Choice of Vodka
This isn’t really important as there are many varieties when it comes to pricing and brand. So many vodkas are can be found in the spectrum of expensive and cheap so it really depends on picking a brand that won’t blow your budget. Especially for a heavy flavoured cocktail like this one.
The Crème de Cassis/Grenadine/Chambord
Crème de Cassis is currant-flavoured liqueur that also makes an appearance in other cocktails such as Kir.
It is not an essential in the bar, but it is nice to have around. Don’t worry, it is an inexpensive liqueur. Just look near the schnapps and it should be there.
The original recipe for a sex on the beach uses crème de cassis but its because it’s an ingredient normally used in the bar or club, many opt to Chambord instead. Grenadine can also be used.
Make It a Punch
If you want to turn Sex On A Beach into a punch, all you need to do is keep the ingredients in amount proportion and steadily add each to the amount you need for a party or gathering.
What’s the alcohol content?
Say you use an 80-proof vodka with Peachtree Schnapps (48 proof) and pour according to the recipe. In this case, our sex on the beach would have an alcohol content of about 11%. It is a very average mixed drink, but just keep an eye on the number of drinks you have.
